How Chris Paul can help Victor Wembanyama level up

It’s time to dig in on one of my favorite moves of the offseason: Chris Paul signing with the San Antonio Spurs, where he will be tasked with a significant role in guiding Year 2 of the Victor Wembanyama era.

Whatever else you want to say about CP3 at this stage of his career, the dude knows how to get the ball to his teammates in the right spot, at the right time, to set them up for success. Specifically, Paul has always been incredible at getting the best out of big men. There’s something about the way he operates that allows for his bigs to reach another level with their games. It’s always been that way. He has been doing it — if we count his career at Wake Forest — since before Wemby was born, and few players in the history of American professional basketball have done it better.

As good as Wemby was as a rookie, he can be even better. He already asserted himself as perhaps the most dominant defensive force in the league for a significant portion of the season, and there’s no real reason to expect that anything will be different in the future. In fact, he should only grow more terrifying. But there is much more room for growth offensively, and particularly in his ability to score efficiently at high volume.
